"Why Marriage Matters"

At the 5th Anniversary Celebration of PFLAG York Region, Marilyn Byers invited Douglas Elliott of Elliott & Kim and Laurie Aaron of EGALE discuss the upcoming marriage challenges here in Ontario.

The two speakers outlined why the fight for equal marriage matters so much in today's society. Douglas spoke about the religious and social traditions surrounding marriage and how excluding gays and lesbians from from full marriage, marginalizes and reduces our relationships to "second class"

Laurie Aaron, outlined the legal ramifications of equal marriage and spoke about the recent decision in British Columbia and how the fight for equal marriage was impacting the lives of the brave couples who continue to fight for their equality.

A truly wonderful evening with outstanding speakers and a great way to help celebrate the invaluable contributions of PFLAG York region in keeping families together.

The Mayor of Georgina (left) was on hand to celebrate PFLAG York Region's 5th Anniversary. After the speeches, he spent a few moments conversing with Kevin Wilcox (middle) and Douglas Elliott.	Brad Salavitch (left) and partner Rick Firth, both of whom were instrumental in assuring the January 14 weddings at MCC Toronto went smoothly, were also on hand for PFLAG York's big night.
