Adovcacy News - Lawn signs support same-sex marriage June 9, 2004 Lawn
signs support same-sex marriage We are pleased to be working in partnership with other groups and the Centre for Social Justice in organizing a nation-wide voter education campaign. "One of the messages that we are promoting is Equal rights, Equal Marriage," David Langille, Director, Centre for Social Justice, said today. "While we are very proud to be championing this issue, it has cut us off from many of our traditional contributors ..." In order to produce 500 lawn signs with the Equal rights, Equal marriage message, Mr. Langille is appealing to members of the gay community for funds. Donations have been received from the Canadian Federation of Students, CUPE Ontario, and USWA but, "We still need $835 if I am not to pay the balance [of funds owed] out of my own pocket." Distribution The 519 community centre in the gay village has agreed to take 100 one-side signs (without stakes). In Toronto's east-end, signs can be picked up from Glen Rhodes United Church, 1470 Gerrard Street East, now until Friday June 18, 9 a.m. to Noon (enter the office by Gerrard St. door, ask for Jean) - suggested donation $3 for the sign The Centre is looking for distribution centre for the Riverdale area of Toronto, including the Toronto-Danforth riding where anti-gay marriage Liberal MP Dennis Mills is being challenged by NDP leader Jack Layton. The messages are available in a variety of formats: postcards, stickers, buttons, posters, lawn signs and billboards. To help out, contact: David
