Lord Byron changing opinions in 1817."Opinions are made to be changed - or how is the truth to be got at?"
Lord Byron, a letter to his publisher, 1817

It stands ever for the 'status quo' and traditional conduct and Emma Goldmanbelief. It comes into private lives and into most intimate personal relations, enabling the superstitious, puritanical, and distorted ones to impose their ignorant prejudice and moral servitudes upon the sensitive, the imaginitive, and the free spirits.
Emma Goldman on why she fought government oppression.

How to help - Write a letter

Please contact government leaders to express your support for equal marriage

"One parliamentarian, a Liberal, has communicated to us that it is useless to inundate an MP's office with faxes and emails because it offends the staff. What does work is personal letters, but that is not what the right has been using."
Quebec marriage advocate Michael Hendricks in "Looking Beyond Same-Sex Marriage, To Be Magazine, Mar. 1, 2005

"The prime minister's mailbag and phone logs are decidedly unscientific samples of opinion, though three dozen bureaucrats are employed full time to wade through some two million items each year and categorize them by subject. Their analyses carefully exclude so-called write-in campaigns, which use form letters and e-mail templates to flood politicians with standardized messages. Instead, staff focus on e-mails, letters and telephone calls that appear to be spontaneous and individual."
Canadian Press, August 6, 2021

It's best to phone. Or write a message in your own words. Be sure to include your full name and street address in your correspondence (including in your email), otherwise your message is at risk of being discounted or discarded. We believe in individual, not mass, mailings. Links below will assist you in either activity.
