Hi, My name is Brittney and I am thirteen. I know that i can't really help [the] campaign for gay rights but i would like to let you know what i have been doing. In the past school year we had to do an essay speech about a very controversial topic; i picked gay rights. I talked about how its wrong to stop people from marrying each other when they love each other. Although i am not gay myself i do have friends that are. But guess what... I got a PERFECT score on my speech and i was amazing. I do know people around me think its wrong but i really think it's great that you can get married and stick up for what you are!!:)

Thank you
Brittney

Hi guys, This is the first time I've sent an e-mail about this subject, but I check back to your website almost daily for same sex marriage updates. Some of your stories are very informative, and can't be found on other sites, like the stories on gays in the bible. Congrats on a job well done.

The 4th question: trading same-sex marriage rights for votesI'm a little surprised at how upset you are over the government's stall tactics. I'm not happy that nation-wide equality is being delayed, but at the same time, I can understand where the liberal party is coming from. Democracy, while far from perfect, is the best option we have. Unfortunately, democracy caters to the majority, and I for one don't want to go down the road the US government is going.

In an ideal world, I would cast my vote for the NDP party and hope that they gain a majority government. It seems that the concept of a second ballot in a national election is unheard of - otherwise the liberals would get my second vote. Unfortunately, we only get one vote, so I have to consider not only who I want to win, but who I think can win. Of course, the conservatives wouldn't get my vote on any ballot. Stephen Harper just scares me, and the rest of his party is little better...

There are a lot of closed minded people in Canada, and most of them live in the west. Even though the liberal government may want to pass this legislation through, their jobs and the future of our country is not worth the price. Come election day, the conservatives will have their say, and if the right motivation is there, they may just put their party in power. The phrase "notwithstanding clause" would surely be spoken by many should they gain a majority government. Some would say that this issue is not enough to sway people's votes. On the other hand... it may just be the kick in the pants some people need to get out and vote it down.

If Paul Martin wants to smooth things over to coast through an election... I'm fine with that, especially since I believe that it is not only helping ensure their victory, but also helping prevent the notwithstanding clause from being invoked. Do you really want to see your own marriage invalidated?

Sincerely,

Neil Courtney

P.S. Keep on writing! I'll be reading!

Thanks for your supportive engagement. We do not fear the notwithstanding clause. The Alliance party last tried that on Sept. 16, 2003. The marriages of same-sex couples that are happening in British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec will never be invalidated. We will continue to move forward. But it is always the right time to do justice. We continue to work to advance that cause for others who are still denied the amazing feeling of full constitutional personhood.

Hi. My name is Holly. Although I may only be 16, I have a very persuasive opinion. Gay marriage should be allowed, who is to say that two people, no matter if they are of the same sex, should not be able to get married and show people who they love. If it were a man and a woman no one would have any conflict, what is the difference between gays'? Both couples, straight and gay, love who they love and is it a crime to love one like yourself? If that is true then I shall not be counted among these Americans.

America is supposed to be a country of rights, the right to be free. Since the bible says a man and a woman should marry, does not mean that MAN and MAN or WOMAN and WOMAN should NOT be able to marry. If people are going to be prejudice against gays, maybe they should take a good look in the mirror.

People should live just one day in a gay or lesbian person's shoes to see how similar their love truly is. The world is changing and people should just learn to accept it. Marriage is not just a thing people go through, it is a bond between two people who love each other. Sure people had problems when Caucasians wanted to marry Negro's and yet something overcame it, that something was the love and strength of two beings standing up for their rights and for their pride as an American. Therefore, if Caucasians and Negro's can overcome marriage, gays should have their rights as free men and women to choose who they shall and not to worry about what the bible says.

Let gays marry, for you know what it is like to love, so be considerate and give them the freedom to love who they shall.

Holly

Dear Kevin and Joe,

I live in Vancouver and heard your new radio spot for your What's Wrong With Gay Marriage Campaign entitled "Complaints" on The Beat 94.5 this afternoon while driving around town. I have to tell you I was so moved by that commercial that I had to pull over and take a moment to cry. It was so wonderfuly done and so TRUE. I'm straight and have been married 4 years, I have many gay friends who are in relationships (none have been married yet) and have the exact same complaints about their partners. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but really gay/straight - there's no difference if 2 people love each other and want to spend their lives together.

If you are not using Internet Explorer 6, you may require an audio/visual player such as Quicktime or RealPlayer to view or hear these public service announcements.

And with straight marriages at the 50% divorce rate, well maybe gay couples can teach us a thing or two about staying together.

I just had to tell you how much this spot moved me. Thank you.

Hi, just to let you guys know that there's a recently formed alliance to fight for marriage in Britain. It's called the Coalition for Marriage Equality and was launched at the same time that the Government published it's Civil Partnership Bill [HL] in the House of Lords.

You both do a great job for gay equality around the world!

Best wishes,

Peter Stein

We have added the Coalition to our International links section in solidarity with the work underway in Britain.

Research Request

Keele University Masters student seeks input about same-sex relationship recognition in online surveyI am a Masters student at Keele University, UK, and I am currently conducting research for my LLM dissertation, "Marriage or Civil Partnership?: Equality and the Legal Recognition of Lesbian and Gay Relationships".

The legal recognition of same sex relationships is currently the subject of much debate, both nationally and internationally. As part of my research I have devised an online survey to attempt to gain an insight into the views of lesbians, gay men, bisexual, heterosexual and transgender people about the legal recognition of same sex relationships.

I would be very grateful if you would spare the few minutes it will take to complete the survey. It should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete. Please also distribute the website address of this survey to anyone else you think may be interested in letting me know their views.

If you have any questions regarding this study or would like further information, please email me at rosie.harding@talk21.com

Thank you for your time.

Best wishes,

Rosie Harding
